Santa for seniors gift event runs through Dec. 10

Home Instead Senior Care is teaming up with non-profit agencies and area retailers to sponsor "Be a Santa to a Senior," a program that collects, wraps and delivers gifts to lonely and needy seniors in quad-city area. The program runs from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10.

Participating retailers will display Christmas trees from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 that feature ornaments with seniors' first names and their gift requests. Holiday shoppers can pick an ornament from these trees, buy the items listed and return them, unwrapped to the store, with the ornament attached.

Trees will be located at Walmart Supercenter, 3050 N. Highway 69, Prescott; YMCA, 750 Whipple St., Prescott; Shapiro's House of Hair Design, 650 W. Gurley, Prescott; Las Fuentes Resort Village, 1035 Scott Drive, Prescott; Alta Vista Retirement Community, 916 Canterbury Lane, Prescott; National Bank of Arizona, 2825 N. Glassford Hill Road, Prescott Valley; and Walgreen's Pharmacy, 1020 Route 89, Chino Valley. Home Instead Senior Care will be collecting donated incidental items such as toothbrushes, shampoo, shavers, body soaps, hand lotion, home-made knitted scarves, hats and quilts to add to the gift bags for each senior.

A community gift wrapping party is Thursday, Dec. 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. with People Who Care, United Methodist Church, 735 E. Road 1 South, Chino Valley; and from 2 to 4 p.m. at Rowle Simmons Adult Center, Meals on Wheels Conference Room, 1280 E. Rosser St., Prescott. Delivery of gifts to seniors in the community will be on Dec. 16.
