Chino Valley Review

Phyllis Henley of Paulden said she "accidently" visited a website about a Phoenix lady who had been making dog pillows for her local shelters. She filed the information away, and this year, put it to good use for the animals at the Chino Valley Animal Shelter.

"After our matriarch Labrador Bailey passed over the Rainbow Bridge in January of this year, I visited with the shelter," Henley said. "Those poor furbabies had nothing but cement, or thin towels or blankets, to sleep on."

Henley went to work and made 12 pillows for the pups to sleep on.

"After Bailey's daughter and granddaughter passed within the next six months, I continued," Henley said. "In March, my Stitchin' Sisters friendship group made 13 pillows. After my last girl passed July 3, I made 12 more pillows. This is an ongoing project as puppies and dogs like to play and chew and shake and scratch to make their pillow comfortable to suit them."

The Chino Valley Quilt Guild ladies and the Mountain Top Quilt Guild supply Henley with plenty of scraps of fabric and batting for the stuffing, and heavier fabric for the outside of the pillows, she said. The shelter has large washers so all pillows are washable.
