The First Southern Baptist Church, 1524 N. Highway 89, hosted a clothing giveaway this past weekend, opening its doors Friday and Saturday to any in need.

Clothing and other household items were available for pick up, and nearly 100 members of the community received help from the church during the first hour Friday.

"This is for the community and the ministry of the church," said volunteer Frank Rose. "We just want to be the hands and feet of our Lord and this is one way we can contribute, physically and spiritually."

Rose said that while many who are able to donate do so during the winter months and holiday season, there is a year round need.

"Especially the way the economy is now, there are people in need all of the time," said Rose. The church holds similar giveaways throughout the year, the next one scheduled for May 31 through June 1, followed by Sept. 6 -7, and Dec. 6-7.

Donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church office.
