Chino Valley High School Wrestlers hit the road this past weekend to compete in the second-to-the-last meet of the year.

"This weekend had a lot of highs and lows for our wrestling team. As a team, we finished third behind last year's champions Coconino High School and this year's champs Snowflake High School," said head coach Allen Foster. "On the positive side, we qualified seven wrestlers for State and had two individual champions."

Sophomore Kody Davis (113 lbs) and senior Kishan Batcheldor (182 lbs) both came away as sectional champs and will receive an automatic top 8 seed for the State tournament in Prescott Valley at Tim's Toyota Center Feb. 7-9.

Both Davis and Batcheldor established themselves as two of the top wrestlers in Arizona in their respective weight classes.

"Davis had to come from behind to beat last year's state runner up, Collin Anderson of Coconino High School," said Foster.

Freshman Gary Medevielle (132 lbs) and Spencer Coffin (160 lbs) both qualified for State with a fourth place finish. Junior Stockton Heiner (120 lbs) finished third, senior co-captain Joe Pontin (126 lbs) and junior Eric Mannix (170 lbs) finished fourth to all qualify for this year's State competition.

"On the down side, after reaching the sectional semi-final match, both freshman Kendall Foster (106 lbs) and senior Hunter Davis (138 lbs) failed to qualify for this year's State competition," said Foster.

Kendall Foster, who led the team with 48 wins, lost in overtime to the returning State placer from Blue Ridge High School. Davis lost in the semis to Show Low High School. After being up by 10 points he was caught in a defensive pin position.

"I feel really bad for those boys because they were two of our best and most consistent wrestlers," Foster said. "It was a real shock. On the bright side, we had a couple of guys who really stepped up who were on the bubble for qualifying. They gutted it out and did what it takes to punch their ticket to State."

Chino Valley High School will wrestle Friday and Saturday at Tim's Toyota Center. Admission is $15 for an Adult All Day Pass, $13 for a Senior/Military All Day Pass, and $10 for a Student All Day Pass.

Children five and under are admitted free. A ticket and hand stamp will grant ticket holders re-entry to the building for that day. Additional detailed event information may be found online at www.aia365.com/sports/wrestling.
