Chino Valley wrestlers advance to state tourney

Chino Valley wrestlers finished strong at the Div. 3, Section 2 tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, held at Winslow High School.

Kody Davis at 113 pounds and Kishan Batcheldor at 182 won individual sectional titles in their respective weight classes, securing their spots at the Div. 3 state tourney to be held later this week at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.

The Cougars placed third as a team and qualified seven of its 14 wrestlers for the state tournament, including Stockten Heiner at 120, Joe Pontin at 126, Gary Medevielle at 132, Spencer Coffin at 160, and Eric Mannix at 170.

Heiner placed third at sectionals, while Pontin, Medevielle, Coffin and Mannix took fourth.

The Div. III state tournament starts Friday at 11 a.m., continuing Saturday at 10 a.m. at Tim's Toyota Center, 3201 N Main St, Prescott Valley.

Tickets for state are $10 for students, $13 for seniors and military, $15 for adults. No charge for children under five.
