Cougar boy's basketball closed out the season with a win on the road Thursday night, downing the Vikings in Williams 47-41.
"It was a very cold shooting night for us, we were down 9-3 after the first period," said head coach Bill McKnight. "But we got a little better in the second by jumping out to a 19-15 lead, then it turned into a real barn burner."
Leading CVHS in scoring was Justin Corbell and Cole Padilla with 14 points each and Tory Marciel heading the defense with12 rebounds.
The Cougars struggled through the first half of the season, with first year head coach James Acton stepping down on Dec. 5, just five games into the season, opening the door for McKnight to step in.
McKnight has made a name for himself on the diamond, being involved in local softball for many years and with his role as assistant varsity baseball coach under Bruce Nesbitt at Chino Valley for the past few seasons.
The Cougars finished the year on a hot four game winning streak, with a 6-4 second half record.
"These boys worked really hard to turn their season around, I'm really proud of them," said McKnight. "We really have something to build on for next season."
