The Chino Valley Track and Field team began their season by competing in the Wickenburg Multi meet on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
The Cougar ladies placed second out of eight teams, trailing only Camp Verde.
They were led by Caitlyn Ballard, who won the high jump with a jump of 4' 10" and the long jump with a distance of 14' 0". She was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished first with a time of 4:36.8, and a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team that finished second with a time of 54.55.
Kelsey Randal placed first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 14:01.
Other top placers for the Lady Cougars were:
Second place went to Long Jump - Chloe Vallejo (12' 0"); Second, Shot Put - Jenny Ballard (27 ' 5"); Triple Jump - Dylen Patrick (36' 9") Third place went to Discus - Jenny Ballard (82' 2"); High Jump - Trista Hacket (4' 6"); 100m Hurdles - Trista Hacket (17.33); 1600m - McKeisha Nez (6:21); 200m - Mariah Ahern (29.30); 4x800m relay (12:14).
The boys also placed second behind host Wickenburg.
The Cougar boys were led by Tory Marciel, who placed first in the high jump (6' 0"). He also was a member of the first place 4x400 meter relay team (3:51.4), and a member of the 2nd place 4x100 meter relay team (46.75).
Other top placers for the Cougar boys were:
Second place went to Triple Jump - Dylen Patrick (36' 9"); 3200m - McKenzie Nez (11:14). Third place went to Long Jump--Dylen Patrick (17' 7"); 1600m--McKenzie Nez (5:03); Shot Put--Sam Heckethorn (36' 10"); 800m--Zach Ballard (2:21).
"I thought the boys and girls did a nice job for their first meet today. We had many good performances today with it being the first meet and with the cool weather conditions," said Cougar coach Marc Metz.
The Cougars also competed in the Skydome Classic in the NAU Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff on Tuesday, March 5.
Results were not available by Review deadline.
Next up for CVHS track is the Phoenix Christian Invitational on Friday, March 8.
