The Yavapai County Junior Rodeo Association (YCJRA) had their first event Saturday at the Five-M Ranch Arena in Chino Valley.
"Many of our local families traveled hundreds of miles to other junior rodeos across Arizona," Said President Dena Rodriguez. "The YCJRA was formed in April 2009 by a group of local families."
Most junior rodeos take the summer off from competition during the summer months. The YCJRA quickly organized three rodeos to take place during those summer months.
Kids can attend the following two even ts:
July 18 in Prescott at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds
August 1 in Chino Valley at the Five M Ranch Arena
"With the support of several local businesses and stock contractors, we were able to raise the funds needed to hold the first rodeo," Rodriguez said.
More than 80 contestants ranging in age from 3-16 years of age and families traveling from as far away as Tucson arrived at Five-M Ranch Arena Saturday. With the wind blowing and the dust flying the kids competed in Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Calf Tying, Pole Pending, Goat Tying, Steer Stopping, Dummy Roping and Team Roping.
