A preliminary report by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the collision that killed three family members on Outer Loop Road in October was caused by the driver of the other car crossing the center line and striking the family's car head-on, a YCSO spokesman said.
The crash, which took the lives of Juliana, Jessa, and Jeremiah Hersh, happened on Oct. 23. Investigators have been hampered by the fact that there were apparently no witnesses to the collision. It was called in by a passerby some time later.
The driver of the car that crossed the line, Elaine Anderson, 63, was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center and was eventually released.
Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said investigators are still waiting for results from toxicology results from the medical examiner and cell phone records for both drivers.
Once the investigation is complete, the results will be turned over to the Yavapai County Attorney's Office for a decision on charges, if any.
