Improvement project on State Route 89 in Chino Valley has begun
Minimal delays expected for next three months

The Arizona Department of Transportation has begun an improvement project on State Route 89 in Chino Valley that includes landscape enhancements and a new sidewalk along the roadway between Road 4 South and Center Street.

As work progresses, drivers can expect a single lane restriction on northbound SR 89 between Road 4 South and Center Street for the next four weeks. Minimal delays are expected during work hours. The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage.

Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The $692,000 project is scheduled for completion by the end of September.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. This is going to be great! Let's all think of this as the beginning of development along the highway frontage of our community. Now bring on the big box stores!!!! We need to also start putting sidewalks around schools and down 2 north (east and west) so children have a place to walk when they are going to and from school. This is a good thing people. Keep it up council! Thank You!

Outstanding! I have seen many pedestrians walking in the weeds and dirt on both sides of SR 89. Many were women pushing strollers, elderly people with walkers children on bikes. The sidewalks are not only a safety feature for pedestrians, but a necessary beautification project. Thank you.

NOW HERES THE BIG PICTURE. THESE STRIPS OF CONCRET ARE NOT FOR PEDESTRIAN USE. THEY ARE FOR THE SKATE BOARDERS TO USE SINCE THERE IS NO LONGER A SKATE BOARD PARK.

Ah yes, the sidewalk to nowhere. I drove by that area yesterday, and noted that there are businesses on the west side of Hwy 89, but only a few on the east side.

What purpose is the sidewalk? Seems the money wound be better spent on other road improvements. I guess WPA at work.
