Chino/Paulden Ministerial Association, Chino Salvation Army move to different office space
By Tony Saverino
Special to the Review

What is the CPMA, you might ask? It is the Chino/Paulden Ministerial Association, a local organization, which has helped needy people living in Chino Valley and Paulden for the past 17 or 18 years.

The office also houses the Salvation Army office, and the St. Vincent de Paul volunteers also help. The office recently moved to 150 S. Highway 89, Suites C&D. The phone numbers are the same CPMA at 636-0276 and the Salvation Army at 636-5336.

Currently the organizations are working on holiday assistance for local needy including the Angel Tree gift program and the Kettle Drive (bell ringers outside Safeway) donation drive.

The CPMA membership is comprised primarily of pastors of most of the area Christian churches, and representatives of various local ministries.  The CPMA coordinates the Outreach Program, which works out of the pastor's former house behind the Chino Valley Community Church across the highway from the McDonald's restaurant at Road 3 North.

Volunteers from most of the memberships screen and process the needy applicants.

A most dedicated and highly competent member of the CPMA, Elsie Baley, handles the supervision of all the administration. A minister in her own right, she has been the chief organizer and coordinator of the Outreach Program since its inception.

No one gets paid at any of these organizations. Further, all of the money donated to the various members' organizations go toward helping the needy of the area. A detailed report listing the people who received assistance, the funding source(s), and the amount of assistance is given at each monthly luncheon meeting. All administrative costs: telephone, computers, printers, paper, etc..., are paid for by contributions of the CPMA members at their monthly luncheon meetings, held primarily at member churches or occasionally at a restaurant.

The Salvation Army and the CPMA are two separate and distinct organizations, however, which happen to work together to help local people in need through the same office. Aside from sharing the same office and working together on joint projects when possible, there is no connection, except that both are God-oriented and both want to serve people in need.

St. Vincent de Paul volunteers are also volunteers in this office, and they can and do recommend to their president and supporting committee to help the clients, but SVdP is not a legal part of it and can't be for insurance purposes.

Anyone wanting to volunteer for the outreach program at the CPMA office - such as with filing, answering phones, helping people fill out forms and interviewing applicants - can call 636-0276.

(Tony Saverino is a lay member of the CPMA.)
